Water supply for 800,000 residents in central China city Zhengzhou basically resumed Thursday, one day after a burst pipe disrupted supply.
Shiyuan Water Plant in the capital of Henan Province said only several communities were still suffering disrupted water supply Thursday morning, and there, water trucks are being used to take water to residents.
A major pipe burst at the plant Wednesday morning, with a 10-meter section of the pipeline damaged. The plant is using standby facilities to supply water.
"It will take another 72 hours to fix the damage," a spokesman said.
The damaged section of the pipe was built in 1976 and so it is old, he added.
The pipe ran through a highway intersection, and the plant had been working with authorities to change the route of the pipe section, he said.
