Five men, including two police officers, were sentenced Sunday for the attempted rape of two 16-year-old girls in central China's Hunan Province in September.
The five men drugged the girls with the drug ketamine and attempted to rape them on Sept. 4 in a hotel in Fenghuang County, the Intermediate People's Court in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture said.
The girls, surnamed Qiu and Hou and from the neighboring province of Hubei, resisted the men's attempts to rape them, the court said.
One of the girls, Qiu, jumped to her death from the 9th floor of the hotel while fleeing her attackers.
Policeman Gong Cheng was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve while assistant policeman Xu Lei was sentenced to 15 years in prison, according to a ruling handed down by the court Sunday.
Lin Yi, a car mechanic, was also sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve.
Bus drivers Han Xiaodong and Wang Kai were sentenced to life and an imprisonment of 13 years, respectively.
The five were also ordered to pay 350,044 yuan (US$52,470) in compensation.
