Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong Tuesday called for a more creative society to build an innovation-oriented country.

Speaking at a meeting of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Liu said the CAST should contribute more to the country's social and economic development, as well as the promotion of innovation.

The CAST had made great accomplishments in the country's science and technology development since the founding of New China60 years ago.

The CAST should help enterprises become the main contributor to technology innovation, by channeling experts into enterprises and helping them make breakthroughs in technology, Liu said.

The CAST should launch high-level academic exchanges and explore the establishment of a science and technology evaluation system with Chinese characteristics, Liu said.

It should also hold more science activities to improve scientific literacy, Liu added.
