China's fastest subway train, which is running in trial in Shanghai, will become operational at the end of the year, subway managers said on Thursday.
The train, with a speed of up to 100 kilometers per hour, will serve on the city's northwest-southeast Line 11 and is expected to cover 46 kilometers across Shanghai's Jiading, Putuo and Changning districts when in operation, said managers of the Shanghai Metro.
The train was manufactured by the Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Factory Group in Hunan Province, one of China's three major locomotive manufacturers. It borrowed technology from the Germany-based Siemens.
With 250 kilometers of subway lines, Shanghai boasts the most extensive subway system among Chinese cities. The system is expected to exceed 345 kilometers to become the longest in Asia by the end of this year.
