Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Monday that the country will achieve all the UN's Millennium Development Goals by 2015, in the government of President-elect Dilma Rousseff.

Lula said that the country is in good economic conditions and the poverty is decreasing.

"Brazil is fine, the Brazilian companies are fine, the poor are less poor, the middle class is growing. I think everybody gained in the past few years and there is a perspective that everyone will keep on gaining," he said.

Lula praised his successor and said that she will rule for all Brazilians and look out for the poor like he did. Lula added that, in the end of his second term, he feels that he did his job.

"Rousseff has the ability and the commitment to carry out a policy that enables us to reach 2015 and achieve all the Millennium Goals. There is no reason for us not to achieve those goals," he said.

The Millennium Development Goals were established in the UN's Millennium summit in 2000 to encourage development and improvement in the life conditions in the world.

In a 15-year period, world countries and regions are expected to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality rate, improve maternal health, combat AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and develop a global partnership for development.
