Experts Hope for Climate Cooperation

Cooperation on climate change is one of the top issues facing China and the United States. For President Barack Obama's upcoming visit to China, boosting bilateral cooperation in energy and climate change is top of his agenda.
China and the United States are the world's two largest emitters of greenhouse gases.
Cooperating on climate change is in both countries' interest.
William Chandler, a climate expert who has worked in the area for 36 years, is looking forward to President Barack Obama's visit to China next week.

Together China and the United States produce 40 percent of global emissions.
Their actions will determine whether efforts to stop climate change succeed or fail.
Mutual distrust has sometimes frustrated discussions between the two countries, although there has been plenty of investment and trade in green technology.
William Chandler said, "We know clearly that China is very serious on climate change and energy cooperation. And we hope that through the meeting......"
Closer cooperation on fighting climate change could help improve overall ties between China and the United States.
This is an area where both sides have much to gain from working together, and much to lose if they cannot reach a deal.
