Africa Urges World to Pool Efforts in Fighting Climate Change

Africa urged the whole world to pool efforts in fighting climate change at the conclusion of a two-day summit hosted by Burkina Faso on Sunday.
Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore told the 7th world forum on sustainable development that leaders of the entire world must merge their expectations, while assuring the participants that Africa already has a travel warrant and will be going to Copenhagen with its common position.
Africa's solidarity would be a notable force at the world climate gathering in Copenhagen in December, as the 53-member bloc boast its number supremacy. The bloc threatens to veto any deal at the cost of its interests to replace the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
Compaore also announced the holding of financial meetings in the coming year to help bring aid to African countries being badly hit by the effects of climate change.
"No socio-economic development program can go on while ignoring the impacts of climate change," Compaore pointed out, saying Africa's development projects must take into account the urgent need for nature conservation to benefit future generations.
President Compaore noted the difference of responsibility between the developed and developing countries in pursuit of a common goal for climate.
"The big polluters have different responsibilities from those of Africa," he told the climate summit.
