WHO Specialist Urges Governments to Delay Spread of H1N1 Virus

The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged all governments to stay vigilant and try to delay the spread of the H1N1 virus, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to local TV broadcaster Channel News Asia, Julie Hall, an epidemiologist of the WHO, said that it is still unknown how H1N1 virus behaves, and the clinical spectrum of the disease which it can cause is yet to be fully understood.

"We're calling on all governments to be vigilant, to try and detect the virus as quickly as possible and to try to delay the spread of the virus." Hall was quoted as saying in the report.

Even though Singapore has yet to see an H1N1 case here, the report said it is highly possible that the virus making its way into Singapore given the frequent travels between Singapore and affected countries like the United States and Canada.
