Jordan Urges Prompt Action to Push for Israeli-Palestinian Peace

A prompt action is needed to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the core of conflicts in the Middle East, Jordan's king Abdullah II on Saturday told visiting US Middle East peace Envoy George Mitchell.
The king, during the meeting, underlined the importance to take tangible and effective measures to relaunch the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations to solve the conflict, according a statement from the Royal Hashemite Court.
The king also stressed that the peace can only be achieved on the basis of two-states-option, which would see Palestinians and Israelis living side by side.
"There is no alternative to the two-state solution which all parties should adhere to and work strenuously to achieve it," the king said.
Mitchell, for his part, said he was looking forward to working closely with the king.
"We strive to bring about a comprehensive peace including an independent Palestinian state living in peace and security alongside Israel in order to secure a more stable and prosperous future for all of the peoples in the region," the envoy added.
Mitchell's regional tour, the second since he took the job as an envoy to the Middle East, has so far included Jordan, Turkey, the Palestinian territories and Israel.
