The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday issued an a travel warning to discourage Filipinos from entering the strife-torn Gaza Strip and West Bank due to volatile security situation there.
It said despite the cease-fire between Israeli troops and the Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, the condition "remains fragile, with continued rocket fire and air strikes."
"The unpredictable occurrence of rocket and mortar launches, gunfire and other military activities make traveling to those areas dangerous," the warning said.
The Philippine government will have difficulties assisting its nationals inside Gaza should violence escalate.
A total of 67 Filipinos and four Palestinians have already been moved out of Gaza while 41 Filipino nationals stayed behind.
Manila said it will continue its evacuation plan despite the ongoing truce to ensure the safety of all Filipinos in Gaza, but none have volunteered for repatriation to the Philippines since armed hostilities have declined.
