Jordan's King Abdullah II on Sunday called for an "early" international action to revive the peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis, according to the Royal Hashemite Court.

The king made the call when meeting with a visiting British parliamentary delegation.

King Abdullah stressed the urgency of such action, saying that there could be no peace and stability in the region unless an independent Palestinian state is established on the Palestinian soil within the two-state solution and in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, said the royal court in a statement.

The King emphasized the importance of a European role and the early involvement of the US administration in the efforts to achieve peace within a clear strategy based on the two-state solution, the statement added.

The two sides also discussed bilateral relations and ways to boost such relations in various fields.
