Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on Monday that Poland wants to take part in reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
"We support the peace process, efforts of Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas, and we join the Palestinian nation in efforts aimed to form two nations and states which could live in peace together -- Israel and Palestine," Sikorski said after meeting with his Palestinian counterpart Riyad Al-Malki, who is accompanying Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas on a visit here.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Sikorski said Poland wants to take part in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. The minister stressed that Israel has the right to a secure life, while the Palestinians has the right to self-determination.
"Poland, within the scope of its ability, wants to contribute to peace processes in the Middle East ... we want to participate in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. We offer humanitarian aidto its inhabitants," Sikorski was quoted as saying by Polish news agency PAP.
Al-Malki said that Palestinian authorities want to cooperate with the Polish government in the war against terrorism.
The Palestinian minister expressed hope that an agreement on humanitarian aid and development cooperation signed in Warsaw will be implemented as quickly as possible.
In 2009, the Polish Foreign Ministry will earmark 1.5 million zlotys (about US$428,570) for, among others, the implementation of aid projects.
