The United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) announced on Friday it suspended its humanitarian activities in response to Hamas security forces seizing its aids.

The international aid organization said in a statement sent to reporters that the decision came after Hamas security forces confiscated 10 trucks loaded with 200 tons of food supplied from UNRWA stores in Gaza City on Thursday.

UNRWA is serving around 900,000 Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip, which has a population of 1.5 million people. However, poverty in the enclave has mounted due to the ongoing Israeli blockade imposed on the area.

On February 3, it had also accused the Hamas police forces for stealing 3,500 blankets and 406 food packages which were prepared to be delivered to hundreds of Gaza poor families, said the UNRWA statement.

Since the end of the 22-day Israeli military assault on the Gaza Strip on January 18, the Gaza Strip had received hundreds of trucks loaded with medicines, food supplies and humanitarian aids. Hamas, which rules the enclave, seized them.

Meanwhile, the deposed government of Hamas said in a statement sent to reporters that it is interested to have good and natural relation with UNRWA that sent aids to the Palestinian refugees.

"We want to clarify that what has been published by the mass media about confiscating the trucks loaded with food supplies is inaccurate," explained the Hamas government's statement.

It added that it was just a matter of misunderstanding between the drivers of the trucks at the crossings between Gaza and Israel and the issue has been resolved through out direct contact with UNRWA and the crossings director.

"We call on the mass media to be careful and be more accurate in publishing untrue information aims at forging facts. The government rejects this way that aims at achieving political goals, " said the statement.
