The United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) accused on Wednesday the police forces of the deposed Hamas government for seizing the humanitarian aids were sent to the Gaza Strip from different countries.
The UNRWA said in a statement that it condemns seizing humanitarian aids by Gaza police from an UNRWA aids station in the beach refugee camp (Shatti) on Tuesday by force.
Hamas movement and its security forces have been controlling and ruling the Gaza Strip since June 2007. They routed moderate President Mahmoud Abbas security forces and cracked down on his Fatah movement's members.
"Members of the police ruled by Hamas had seized by force 3,500 blankets and 406 food packages were prepared to be delivered to hundreds of Gaza poor families," said the UNRWA statement.
However, UNRWA refused to hand over the humanitarian aids to the Hamas-ruled ministry of social welfare. In the Gaza Strip, there are 1.5 million Palestinians, more than 60 percent of them are refugees and UNRWA aids them.
"Aids delivery to refugees is UNRWA's mission, and we strongly condemn the confiscation of the aids," the organization said in a statement sent to reporters.
The statement added "UNRWA has a clear and strict system and mechanism to deliver foods aids and supplies to poor families, where this aids directly go to them." "Our employees monitor the process of food and aids distribution.
