About 1,200 Palestinian orphans who lost their parents during the Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip are going to be sponsored by Turkish families, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Friday.
The Human Rights and Freedoms (IHH) Humanitarian Aid Foundation has found Turkish families to sponsor these Palestinian orphans, said the report.
"We launched a campaign to find sponsor families for Palestinian children who were left orphan during the Gaza conflict and now we already have families for 1,200 orphans," said the report, quoting Veysel Tepeli, chairman of the Humanitarian Aid Association based in southern Turkish province of Adana.
"We are still searching for families to support those children by sending nearly US$42 each month for a period of at least six months," said Tepeli.
"Families who join our campaign, will be informed on conditions of the child they sponsor once in every six months," he added.
Tepeli noted that they also carried out similar campaigns in 30countries including Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Somalia, Ghana and Ethiopia.
"The IHH is also targeting to build an orphanage in the Palestinian territories with a fund to be raised from donations of Turkish people," he said.
