Adjust font size:
A guide that was published 73 years ago for foreign students studying in the United States is now on exhibit by a folk collector in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province.
The guide, published in 1936, is divided into four parts. Part A covers the general situation of US schools, such as information on school organizations, preparations to take before a new semester, brief introductions of famous universities and tuition fees.
Part B tells the procedures to take before studying abroad, how to book trips, tips of what kind of clothes to pack and how to exchange foreign currency.
Information about boat routes, port places and railway stations are provided in Part C, while Part D includes a list of addresses for major US schools and foreign embassies in the United States.
According to the guide, "The tuition fees in the United States are varied: from US$40 to US$200," although the guide also notes that some especially famous universities charged more fees. "The tuition fee at Massachusetts Institute of Technology is over US$400."
Also included in the guide is the price of a third-class boat ticket from Shanghai to San Francisco. For Western-style food, it would cost US$110, while for Chinese-style food the price would cost US$97.50.
