East China's Anhui Province will launch a province-wide assessment of public buildings, such as schools and hospitals, local newspaper Anhui Shangbao reported.
Buildings that fail to meet current anti-earthquake standards will be reinforced, according to the earthquake administration of Anhui.
In addition, earthquake drills will be conducted so as to prepare the public for a potential quake hit.
In the future, all the buildings' design must include quake-resistance factors, especially schools, which must meet the standards for emergency shelters.
Since the May 12th earthquake devastated southwest China's Sichuan Province, China has begun making efforts to enhance the ability to combat natural disasters.
