The Egyptian authorities reopened the Rafah land crossing at the border with the Palestinian territory of Gaza Strip on Wednesday for two days, a Palestinian diplomat working at Rafah told Xinhua.

Twenty Palestinian patients who have received treatment at Egyptian hospitals and other humanitarian cases were allowed to enter Gaza, the source said.

Moreover, travelers and other humanitarian cases stranded in both sides are allowed to cross the land terminal linking Egypt and Gaza.

The Egyptian authorities also allowed in the day 450 tons of sugar to be transported into Gaza through Al Oja crossing in central Sinai, he added.

Holders of foreign passports and those carrying residence permits in Egypt, students studying outside the Palestinian territories and humanitarian cases would also cross into Egypt.

Rafah border crossing is the sole gateway of Gaza that bypasses Israeli checkpoints.
