Islamic Hamas movement held talks with several factions in the Gaza Strip on resistance and rocket attacks against Israel, a source said on Wednesday.

The meeting took place in Gaza City Tuesday night gathering Hamas, the Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the Democratic Front to Liberate Palestine (DFLP).

"The meeting discussed the formation of a joint operation room for the military wings of the Palestinian factions," said Rabah Muhana, a PFLP member.

"Based on our right in resistance, the room will define the form, time and places of the resistance in a way making it more harmful to the occupation," said Muhana.

The meeting was held upon a Hamas' request following reports that Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman is due to visit Israel Wednesday to discuss renewing a ceasefire between Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, and Israel.

An Egyptian-brokered six-month ceasefire ended in December and a few days later Israel launched a 22-day offensive on Gaza, killing more than 1,300 Palestinians and destroying thousands of houses and buildings.

On Tuesday, a Hamas lawmaker criticized the rockets that less-influential groups fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip, calling on these groups to consider the interest of the Palestinian people.
