Hamas Studies New Egyptian Offer to Boost Dialogue

Hamas studies a new Egyptian proposal to boost inter-Palestinian reconciliation and push forward the unity talks, Palestinian sources said on Monday.
The proposal suggests the formation of a national committee to translate the agreements Hamas and Fatah reached in Cairo dialogue to actions on the ground, reported the London-based al-Hayyat newspaper.
The Palestinian government of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, which is based in the West Bank, would be "the political umbrella of that committee."
The committee would comprises members of Hamas, Abbas' Fatah movement, the Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, according to the report.
The national committee would prepare for holding elections, reforming the security services in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and would oversee the reconstruction process of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, added al-Hayyat newspaper.
The sources said the committee is not an alternative to the broader dialogue that Egypt hosts and sponsors. "The committee will be dismantled once the elections are held," the sources said.
In the Cairo dialogue, Hamas and Fatah agreed on forming a transitional government and holding elections by January 2010. However, they failed to agree on the government's platform and the electoral law.
