Hamas government of the Gaza Strip on Saturday welcomed reports that British legislator George Galloway will lead an American aid convoy into the Israeli-blockaded territory.

"We greet the new step by Mr. Galloway and the American peace activist Ron Kovic to send a new convoy to break the siege on Gaza Strip," said Adel Zourob, a spokesman for the governmental committee of siege-breaking.

According to Zourob, the second convoy the outspoken lawmaker leads would be made up of 500 trucks carrying aid worth 10 million U.S. dollars and expected to arrive in July 7.

Last month, Galloway entered the Gaza Strip through the Egyptian borders with a convoy of 120 trucks and vans carrying aid. He handed the keys of the vehicles to representatives of the Hamas government.

Israel sealed off the Gaza Strip in June 2007 after Hamas routed security forces of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and ousted his long-dominant Fatah movement.

In January 2009, Israel ended a 22-day military offensive into the besieged Gaza Strip where more than 1,300 Palestinians were killed and around 14,000 buildings sustained partial or complete damage.
