Two European land convoys, a Scottish and Italian, laden with aid goods and supplies, are due to arrive in Gaza through Gaza-Egypt borders next week, a Hamas spokesman said on Thursday.

"The preparations to send the two land convoys to the Gaza Strip are still going on, and will arrive in Gaza next week," said Adel Zourob, a spokesman for a siege-breaking committee sponsored by Hamas rulers of the Gaza Strip.

On Thursday, Zourob revealed that next week, the Scottish lawmaker Pauline McNeil, will lead the first Scottish land convoy from Scotland to Egypt, then will cross the borders into the Gaza Strip.

He added that the second convoy will arrive at Alexandria seaport on May 3, then will travel to the borders and cross into Gaza. The two convoys carry medical and food supplies to the population.

In March, British opposition leader and member of the Common House George Galloway crossed Gaza-Egypt borders with dozens of activists driving trucks and vehicles carrying medical and food supplies to the population.

Zourob has also revealed that a fleet of Arab ships plans to sail into the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip in a bid to break a 22-month-old Israeli blockade imposed on the poor enclave.

According to Zourob, a lobby of 35 Lebanese and Palestinian organizations is preparing to send ships to the Gaza Strip by the end of May. "Arab and international campaigners will be onboard."

Israel imposed a tight blockade on the Gaza Strip after Hamas won the parliamentary elections in 2006, but Israel tightened it and closed all crossings and terminals after the Hamas movement took control of the Gaza Strip by forces in 2007.
