Hamas government in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday said Jewish settlers' attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank turned out the role of the new rightist Israeli government.

"The attacks continue the role of the extremist rightist government that took office in the Jewish state last week," said Taher al-Nounou, spokesman for the Islamic movement's administration.

Twelve Palestinians were wounded when the settlers rampage through Safa village in West Bank city of Hebron Wednesday morning. Witnesses said Israeli soldiers who escorted the settlers opened fire at residents who threw stones and Molotov cocktails on the folks of settlers.

"Unfortunately, these serious crimes are committed under the security liaison that Ramallah authority adopts," al-Nounou added, referring to the Western-trained security forces of rival Fatah movement, led by President Mahmoud Abbas.

Al-Nounou continued that the Palestinian National Authority (PA) asked its security servants to keep themselves away from such things "and this encouraged the settlers to rush on our people."

He urged the PNA to stop cracking down on Palestinian fighters and militants in West the Bank.

Hamas controls the Gaza Strip while President Abbas consolidates his rule in the West Bank after his forces lost control of Gaza in 2007 deadly fighting. Hamas accuses the PNA of targeting its supporters and members of its military wing in the West Bank.
