Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's envoys to Gaza Strip on Monday said the visit mainly comes to boost unity and reconciliation talks with Islamic Hamas movement.
The Fatah envoys, Abdallah el-Ifranji and Marwan Abdul Hamid, arrived in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip in the first official talks since Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces and ousted his movement in summer 2007.
"Our main goal is to support the dialogue and promoting the national unity," Abdul Hamid said upon his arrival through Erez crossing between the Gaza Strip and Israel.
"The visit to Gaza reflects President Abbas's emphasis that Gaza is an undividable part of the home," Abdul Hamid added.
Following the Gaza takeover, political unity with the West Bank was cut with Hamas forming its own administration in the coastal enclave and Abbas formed a Western-backed cabinet in the West Bank.
In recent weeks, Egypt hosted several meetings between the Palestinian factions to reach a reconciliation agreement and restoring the unity through a coalition government. The Cairo dialogue will resume later this month with the program of the government poses the major obstacle before an agreement.
