Report: Fatah, Hamas to Temporarily Boycott Talking to Media

Leaders of rival Fatah and Hamas movements decided to temporarily stop talking to mass media in a bid to succeed the inter-reconciliation talks held currently in Cairo, local Sama news agency reported on Thursday.

The report quoted well-informed sources as saying that the decision was made until the two rival groups agree on core issues, mainly the one related to forming a new unity government.

The report said that the two parties are negotiating four major issues, namely the platform of the government, the system of the upcoming elections, the security apparatuses and reforming Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

According to the report, the two movements agreed in the meeting on Wednesday night in Cairo not to make any detailed statements of the dialogue to the media "in order to succeed the efforts to end the internal rift."

Meanwhile, Egypt's intelligence chief Omer Suleiman will hold bilateral talks later on Thursday separately with the two movements' leaders, then they will all meet together.

Senior Fatah leader Nabil Shaath had earlier made statements that the talks between Fatah and Hamas held on Wednesday night were "intensive and serious."

He told "Voice of Palestine" Radio that Suleiman will hold separate talks with the two movements' leaders before a trilateral meeting will be held later "in a bid to resolve all existing differences.

"Egypt is not intending in this stage to call other factions' leaders to join the dialogue. The invitation will remain linked to achieving a progress in the bilateral talks between Fatah and Hamas," said Shaath.
