Haneya: Hamas Not Seeking Rule Alone

Deposed Hamas premier Ismail Haneya on Tuesday said his movement was not seeking to rule the Palestinian territories alone.
"Hamas wants to put an end to the split and boost the partnership in administering the home," Haneya said in an interview with Felesteen, a pro-Hamas daily based in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
Referring to unity talks that Cairo hosts between his movement and president Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah factions, Haneya said "We want to secure a systematic reference for the Palestinian people representing all of them."
The talks aim at reconciling Hamas and Fatah and end the consequences of Hamas' violent takeover of Gaza Strip in 2007 and the ensued split between Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
"We want to reconstruct a security establishment able to protect the home and provide all means of steadfastness and power to the Palestinian people," Haneya continued.
"We work on building a respectful political regime and attaching the Palestinian people to the resistance," according to Haneya.
In Cairo, the factions agreed on forming a transitional unity government, quitting when new elections are held by January 2010. However, Hamas and Fatah did not agree on the government's platform and the electoral system. They also talk about the reference of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) during the coming transitional era.
