N Israel Disturbed by False Alarm

Air raid sirens indicating possible rocket attacks were mistakenly sounded in northern Israel on Sunday, hurrying local residents into bomb shelters.
The alarm went off in the Israel-Lebanon border town of Kiryat Shmona and nearby communities, yet following a swift investigation, the Israel Defense Forces announced that no evidence of rocket attacks was found.
Upon hearing the sirens, local residents rushed into rocket-proof shelters. "My girls called me from school and said they'd taken everyone down to the shelters," local resident Yigal Levy told local news service Ynet.
It is still unknown what caused the false alarm. Similar accidents happened in the past.
Earlier this year, northern Israel was pounded by several rounds of rocket fire from southern Lebanon, which left at least three Israelis injured.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army suspected that the attacks were carried out by Palestinian militants in Lebanon in retaliation for Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip.
