Fayyad: EU to Determine Its Position over Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

The European Union (EU) is preparing a plan determining its position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the peace talks between the two sides, Palestinian prime minister Salam Fayyad said on Saturday.
Fayyad revealed that the EU plan was being finalized after 50-60 percent of it was accomplished, adding that the EU consulted with the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) in preparing this paper.
The idea of that plan came into existence following the Israeli elections where the rightists achieved victory over the moderate parties and it "poses a political movement that could influence the US administration," Fayyad said.
According to Fayyad, the plan will reveal the EU stances on the continuation of the Israeli settlement activities in the West Bank, the army's frequent incursions in the Palestinian territories and the movement of the Palestinians in West Bank cities and villages.
The Israeli measures in the West Bank prevented the US-sponsored peace talks, launched in November 2007, from making any progress towards reaching an agreement enabling the creation of a Palestinian statehood.
"There is no indication that Israel approves the two-state solution and the establishment of the Palestinian statehood on the lands that were occupied in 1967," Fayyad said.
