After the massive earthquake occurred on May 12, 2008, she found her son severely injured in Beichuan Middle School. As she carried the boy and hurried over to the hospital, a taxi driver saw them because of her colorful embroidery clothes and picked them up. "To some extent, it's embroidery saved my son." said Jia. After the earthquake, Jia held a training class free in a temporary house in Beichuan to teach people embroidery skills.
