South Korean gymnast Jo Hyun-joo, who suffered an injury during the women's all-around final, has been freed from hospital, a spokesperson of the World University Games said on Monday.
The spokesperson said that Jo just suffered a soft tissue injury to her neck, instead of a cervical vertebra fracture which was originally feared. Jo left the Shenzhen No 2 hospital after receiving some treatment.
Jo was stretchered off the field and sent to the hospital after falling off the uneven bars during her run-up for a gold medal in the women's all-around final at the Shenzhen Universiade.
She was ranked first in the preliminary round and was the favorite to win the gold medal.
Jo Hyun-Joo is currently South Korea's highest-ranked artistic female gymnast, representing her country in three World Gymnastics Championships and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
