Mcglynn Takes Gold and World Record
Britain's Aileen Mcglynn took a second off her own world record to take gold in the Women's 1km B&VI Time Trial on Sunday, September 7, and underscored her apparent invincibility on the track. Together with her pilot partner Ellen Hunter, Mcglynn scorched round the 1km circuit chasing the previous best time set by Australia's Felicity Johnson who was herself just outside the world best mark and had to be content with the silver. Johnson's team mate Lindy Hou, a pre-race favorite, had to settle for a bronze after seeing Johnson set a new Paralympic best two seconds better than Hou. The record lasted all of two minutes when Mcglynn stepped up to smash both world and Paralympic marks going under 1'10 for the first time ever. In a disappointing fourth position was another pre-race hotshot Karissa Whitsell of the United States who was expected to do well after placing second in Athens and grabbing the top world ranking spot at the end of 2006.
