Veteran thespian, Pu Cunxin, suggests that filmmakers should not eye foreign markets too eagerly as many cinematic works that went abroad have not succeeded in the box office or received critical acclaim.
"We should focus on our own turf first. Even though we poured a lot of money into films and promotion, these films are still not being positively reviewed and accepted,” Pu says.
"Sometimes, a film can be excessively entertaining. I think we should highlight the film’s artistry when sending it to the outside world.”
The vice-president of the Beijing People's Art Theatre also revealed there will be 24 dramas celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the theatre.
