A National People’s Congress (NPC) deputy has called for 30-square-meter houses to be built to meet the needs of young graduates and low-income groups.
Li Xinghao, who is also General Manager of Guangdong Chigo Air-Conditioning Co. Ltd., submitted his motion to the annual session of the 11th NPC which runs from March 5th to 14th.
Li said the 30-square-meter houses would not only meet the needs of recent graduates but would also make it possible for people on low incomes to fulfill their dreams of becoming home owners.
Li said houses currently cost at least 600,000-700,000 yuan in most of China’s cities. But the cost of a 30-square-meter house would be much lower.
He also predicted that putting large quantities of mini-houses on the market would cause an across-the-board drop in house prices, resulting in more affordable homes for all.
Li Xinghao, National People’s Congress (NPC) deputy, explains mini-house project during an interview on March 7, 2011.
