Singapore's Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority announced on Thursday evening it has expanded the ban on imports of vegetables and fruits from Japan to a tenth prefecture.
The imports from the Shizuoka prefecture, which is located southwest of Tokyo, will be suspended, following suspension of imports from nine other prefectures such as Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Chiba, Ehime, Kanagawa, Tokyo and Saitama.
The authority said it is closely following the situation at the Fukushima nuclear power plant and continuing with measures to safeguard Singapore from radioactive contamination.
Meanwhile, the National Environment Agency has been monitoring radiation levels.
The government said radiation levels in Singapore remain normal, and no radioactive iodine and cesium were detected in coastal water samples tested.
The national water agency has also stepped up the daily monitoring of radioactivity level in local water supplies, including rain water in the catchments.
