Minute Amount of Radiation Detected in Japanese Food Imports

Adding to rising fear here of radioactive contamination, a government agency said Wednesday radioactive materials were found in some imported Japanese food products, albeit at minuscule levels.
Traces of cesium and iodine were detected in 14 Japanese food products out of 244 tested for possible radioactive contamination, but the minute levels of radiation in them pose no human health risks, the Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) said in a press release.
The regulator said a total of 742 products are still subject to further tests, which began on March 19 after the devastating earthquake and tsunami ravaged neighboring northeastern Japan, crippling its nuclear power plant.
The KFDA will keep the public informed of the development, it said.
