Death Toll Rises to 9,700 in Japan Following March 11 Great Quake

The National Police Agency said Thursday that the twin disasters of the catastrophic March 11 earthquake and ensuing tsunami have left 9,700 people dead and 16, 501 others unaccounted for in Japan by 12:00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT).
