China's manned submersible Jiaolong prepares for a dive test from its support ship, Xiangyanghong-9, June 1, 2012. The ship set sail on May 3 from Jiangyin City, east China's Jiangsu Province to the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean, where Jiaolong completed a 7,000-meter deep sea manned dive test. Six dives were conducted as part of the project this year, reaching the deepest depth of 7,062 meters, undertaking hundreds of test and collecting samples of water, stones and creatures in the deep ocean. Scientists adjust the Chinese supercomputer Tianhe-1A. The National University of Defense Technology independently developed China's first petaflops-per-second supercomputer, which ranks first with a performance of 2.57 petaflops - one quadrillion floating point operations - per second, on a list of the world's 500 most powerful commercially available computer systems in 2010.
