This year marks 20 years since the socialist market economic system was implemented in China.

During that time China has become the world's second-largest economy. While the country's economic performance and restructuring has received wide acknowledgement, China has placed political restructuring in an important position. It has created the path of political development with Chinese characteristics.

In August, China's State Council decided to remove or modify 314 administrative examination and approval items in order to cut bureaucracy and opportunities for corruption. A total of 2,497 administrative approval items have been rescinded or adjusted over the past 10 years, representing 69.3 percent of the total.

"Political restructuring has been getting stronger step by step along with the progress of China's economic restructuring during the past 30-some years since the country carried out its reform and opening up policy", said Li Junru, a theorist and former vice president of the Party School of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. "Incorporating political restructuring into economic restructuring has been a distinct feature of China's political restructuring."

China has eliminated de facto life tenure for leading officials, expanded orderly public participation in political affairs, and improved multi-party cooperation under the leadership of the CPC.

The Party has acted more consciously within the framework of the constitution and laws.

The legislature, the government, the political consultative body, and judicial departments have been encouraged to be independently responsible but work in a concerted way in accordance with law.

In addition, a power restriction and supervision system has been put in place to ensure the Party and government departments exert their power in accordance with law.
