China's People's Liberation Army Navy and the Indonesian Navy completed a maritime transit exercise on Wednesday in waters east of Taiwan Island, according to Chinese military authorities.
The Chinese naval vessel Honghe and Indonesian Navy frigate KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai carried out all planned exercises after arriving in the designated waters, marking the conclusion of the drill.
The two ships formed a naval formation and conducted exercises covering maritime communications, formation maneuvers, replenishment at sea and splitting up after operating together at sea, according to the Chinese side.
Chinese sailors used tactical signal codes and signal flags to communicate with the Indonesian frigate and relay commands during the drills. The two sides maneuvered and coordinated according to a prearranged exercise plan and completed all the scheduled objectives.
The exercise demonstrated what Chinese authorities described as the two countries' willingness and ability to pursue practical cooperation and jointly contribute to peace and stability in the region.
