China-US joint operation leads to arrest of drug suspect in Tianjin

Chinese police arrested a suspect in Tianjin in February after receiving intelligence from the United States in a jointly investigated cross-border drug trafficking case involving new psychoactive substances, the Ministry of Public Security said on Thursday.

Since 2024, the ministry's narcotics control bureau and the US Drug Enforcement Administration under the Department of Justice have worked together on the case.

The suspect, surnamed Gong, was arrested by Tianjin police based on clues provided by the US side, the ministry said. Earlier, US authorities had arrested an American suspect involved in the same case in the state of Georgia.

The ministry said the successful investigation reflects the regular operation of China-US drug control law enforcement cooperation mechanisms and marks another practical result of joint efforts to combat cross-border crime.

It also demonstrates the firm stance of law enforcement agencies in both countries against drug crimes and related transnational criminal activities, the ministry said.
