Macao foreign exchange reserves fall 3.9 pct in April

Xinhua, May 18, 2026 Adjust font size:

The foreign exchange reserves of the Macao Special Administrative Region totaled 232.8 billion patacas at the end of April 2026, down 3.9 percent from the previous month, the Monetary Authority of Macao said on Friday.

The reserves decreased from a revised 242.2 billion patacas recorded at the end of March, according to preliminary estimates released by the authority. At the end of April, the reserves represented 10 times the currency in circulation and 84.7 percent of the Macao pataca M2 money supply at the end of March.

Meanwhile, the trade-weighted effective exchange rate index for the Macao pataca dropped 0.74 points month-on-month and 4.07 points year-on-year to 99.6 in April, indicating an overall decline of the local currency against those of Macao's major trading partners. (1 pataca equals 0.12 U.S. dollar) ■
