Hou Weidong, former vice-president of the Bank of Communications, is under investigation for suspected serious violations of Party discipline and national laws, China's top anti-corruption watchdogs announced on Tuesday.

The investigation was disclosed online by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision. No further details were released.

Publicly available information shows that Hou, 65, a native of Shandong province, joined the Party in 1986 and graduated from Peking University. He has worked in China's banking system for decades and became vice-president of the Bank of Communications in late 2010.
