"Cinema Paradiso" director to head jury panel of Shanghai International Film Festival

Renowned Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore, known for classics such as Cinema Paradiso and The Legend of 1900, will be the president of the jury for Golden Goblet Awards at this year's Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), said its organizer Friday.

The 27th SIFF Golden Goblet Awards, slated for June 13-22, has five competition sections: feature-length films, new Asian talent, documentaries, animated films, and short films.

"Film festivals are not only a celebration of cinema but also a moment for peers from different countries to gather, exchange ideas and appreciate outstanding films," said Tornatore.

He extended an invitation to filmmakers worldwide, emphasizing the festival's significance for young directors. "For new directors, this is an exceptional opportunity to launch their careers and potentially achieve success through the festival."

Founded in 1993, SIFF is a prestigious global event, driven by Shanghai's ambition to become an international cultural hub. It has been attracting increasing international attention thanks to China's booming film market. ■
