China's crackdown on illegal off-campus training continues during winter vacation

Xinhua, February 25, 2022 Adjust font size:

A total of 918 off-campus curriculum subject-tutoring institutions and 4,218 non-academic training institutions were investigated and dealt with for offering training programs in violation of the country's "double reduction" policy during the winter vacation, China's Ministry of Education said Thursday.

Besides, over 10,000 other institutions were punished for inadequate licensing as of February 20, the ministry said, adding that more than 1,000 people were also penalized for conducting illegal training sessions.

During this winter vacation, advertisements for training institutions were basically stamped out, and the overall situation for online and offline training was stable and orderly, the ministry said.

In July 2021, China introduced a set of "double reduction" rules to ease the burden of excessive homework and off-campus tutoring for young students.
