Rain, snow to hit parts of China

Xinhua, February 17, 2022 Adjust font size:

The central and eastern parts of China are expecting a new round of rain and snow in the next three days, the National Meteorological Center said on Wednesday.

From Wednesday to Friday, heavy snow will hit parts of Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, with blizzard conditions in certain mountain areas, the center said.

Meanwhile, parts of Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Guangxi will see precipitation of up to 70 mm during the period.

"During this round of rain and snow, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang and Hubei provinces will experience a transition from rain to sleet or snow due to temperature changes," said Zhang Tao, chief forecaster at the center.

Since January, multiple rounds of rain and snow have hit many regions in China, especially in the south of the country.

Zhang attributed the weather to the encounter between cold fronts, which are weak but frequent this year, and warm and humid currents.

The forecaster advised the public to take precautions against the adverse impact on traffic due to snowfall, freezing snow and low visibility, while suggesting measures to protect agricultural production.  ■
