Written based on the original idea of The Way Forward: Stories of Poverty Reduction in China published in 2018, this book collects 25 poverty reduction stories narrated by 11 non-Chinese writers in English and has been translated into Chinese. It focuses on poverty alleviation
via industrial development in China's 15 provinces and regions, and includes five sectors of environmental conservation-based poverty alleviation, poverty alleviation through internet plus development, science and technology-supported poverty reduction, finance-supported poverty reduction and tourism-based poverty reduction.
Gilbert F. Houngbo, president of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) marked in his preface to the book that 2020 witnessed 40 years of China-IFAD cooperation. IFAD and China share a common vision of a world out of poverty and hunger, that IFAD has been a valued partner to China in its journey towards eradicating poverty in rural areas.
"I hope that this book contributes to a shared and rich knowledge and experience of China’s successful poverty reduction story, and serves as a source of inspiration to other countries to achieve sustainable rural development and the SDGs." he said.
The 2020 International Seminar on Global Poverty Reduction Partnerships was held in China's Gansu province on Nov. 24, on the theme of Global Poverty Reduction Innovation and Cooperation amidst Pandemic. It was co-hosted by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, IFAD, World Food Programme, China International Publishing Group, the People’s government of Gansu province, IPRCC and CIIC.
