First compilation of best poverty reduction case studies released

During the 2020 International Seminar on Global Poverty Reduction Partnerships held in Gansu's Longnan city on Nov. 24, the list of the first compilation of 34 case studies of Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices (Second Call) was announced by Gao Anming, vice president and editor-in-chief of the China International Publishing Group.

On Oct. 16, 2019, the World Bank (WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), China Internet Information Center (CIIC), and the three Rome-based Agencies of the United Nations (RBAs)—Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Food Programme (WFP)—jointly launched the “Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices (Second Call).” This campaign invites organizations and individuals from all over the world to submit poverty reduction case studies. It aims to share best domestic and international practices in poverty alleviation through real-life cases, so as to promote South-South Cooperation in poverty alleviation.
A total of 500 poverty reduction case studies were collected during this campaign. Government agencies at all levels, enterprises and individuals in China submitted 457 case studies, which introduced various poverty reduction approaches, such as financial poverty alleviation, poverty alleviation for special groups, poverty reduction through tourism, industrial development, ecological improvement, consumption, employment and entrepreneurship.
Other case studies involve poverty alleviation practices conducted in more than 30 countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Cote d'Ivoire, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Brazil, Japan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines, Pakistan, Laos, Mongolia, etc.
The 2020 International Seminar on Global Poverty Reduction Partnerships, on the theme of Global Poverty Reduction Innovation and Cooperation Amidst Pandemic, was co-hosted by FAO, IFAD, WFP, CIPG, Government of Gansu Province, IPRCC and CIIC.
