A senior official with the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for the promotion of the revolutionary and dedicated spirit of 94-year-old veteran Zhang Fuqing.

Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks on Thursday while meeting with speakers who gave a public lecture on Zhang's meritorious deeds at the Great Hall of the People on Wednesday.

Zhang, a veteran war hero from the Liberation War, chose to devote his life to Laifeng, a poverty-stricken county in central China's Hubei Province, after retirement and worked there for over 60 years. He was honored as a "role model of our times" in June.

Huang noted that Zhang has observed the original aspiration and goal of Chinese communists and demonstrated the national spirit and the spirit of the times.

Zhang's virtues should be further promoted to inspire the public to follow the Party and make new contributions, according to Huang.
