China's Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) Thursday has underlined to safeguard production safety during summer as historic data showed major and extraordinarily serious accidents mainly occurred in August.

Between 2009 and 2018, August has seen a total of 54 major accidents, causing 1,110 deaths, and eight extraordinarily serious accidents which took 480 lives, according to the MEM.

Among 32 provincial-level regions with statistics, 26 regions have seen major and extraordinarily serious accidents take place in August, MEM data showed.

In terms of fields, the road transportation industry has the highest recorded number with 24 accidents, accounting for 44.4 percent of the total major and extraordinarily serious accidents occurred in August.
