The amount of active monthly users (MAU) in China's fitness sports industry rose 1.7 percent year on year to 64.22 million by the end of May 2019, an industrial report showed.

Driven by the growth momentum of the country's sports industry, sub-sectors including sports equipment manufacturing and fitness activities registered double-digit growth year on year, according to the report released by big data service provider QuestMobile.

The number of users who utilized mobile apps for sports and fitness activities stood above 60 million since March 2019, while leading apps posted significant user growth, the report said.

As the population engaged in sports activities expands, sports brands and retailers continued to tap into the Chinese market, according to the report.

Sports consumption in China is expected to reach 1.5 trillion yuan (about 221 billion U.S. dollars) by 2020, according to a two-year national plan for boosting sports consumption jointly issued by General Administration of Sport and the National Development and Reform Commission earlier this year.
